CLIENT PROFILES
GENERAL PROFILE
Many of our clients are poly drug users, requiring detoxification from more than one substance, and sometimes as many as three or four different drugs, including alcohol. Many are also experiencing other difficulties, along with their addiction problems – homelessness or the lack of safe, affordable housing, unemployment, trauma and abuse issues, legal issues, parenting issues, poverty, medical and mental health issues and the lack of a positive support system.
We also serve some clients who have jobs, homes and families that support them. Clients from all walks of life have accessed our services – the logging and fisheries industries, retail and business, construction and other trades, university and college students.
Sometimes people think that those with addiction problems are “from the wrong side of town” or don’t come from “good families” or somehow “deserve” what is happening to them. Our experience has been that people with addiction problems come from all walks of life and have varied backgrounds. Every one of them is someone’s sister or mother or father or daughter or son. Addiction can happen to anyone.
Comments from Clients
The following are excerpts from notes and letters that some of our clients have sent us:
“You will be very happy to hear that I just received my ‘one year cake’ at my home group meeting. I felt very proud when my friend gave a speech and presented me with my medallion and a cake. Then I gave a speech about going to the Clearview detox and supportive recovery program. I will never forget any of you and thank you so much for being there in my time of need. You are all always in my prayers. Keep up the good work. We need you!”
“I’d like to thank all of you for caring for me so well. It’s nice to know that there are people in the field with compassion and integrity”.
“I feel as if I’ve been on a retreat which enabled me to clear my head and make a few plans. I cannot explain how bad it was for me these past few months before coming here”.
" It is difficult to say how much you helped me in so many way. You are caring, wise, beautiful people and your presence and work on this earth is not ever in vain. You've all meant so mcuh to my sobriety and thus my life. Thank you."
